Assam chief minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “These will enable the employees to spend quality time with parents.”
Assam will allow two-day special leave for state governments employees so that they can spend quality time with family members in January next year.

The state cabinet on Wednesday decided state government employees, including the ministers, will have two days of leave - on January 6 and 7. This, clubbed with Saturday and Sunday (January 8 and 9), will make a four-day leave - during which the employee can visit his home and stay with parents or in-laws.

Assam chief minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “These will enable the employees to spend quality time with parents.”


The Assam Cabinet also approved to bring an amendment to the Assam Public Services Combined Competitive Examination (Amendment) Rules, 2020 so that the Combined Competitive Examination including the ongoing examination may be held without the Qualifying Language Paper (English, Assamese, Bengali and Bodo).

Sarma said, “ The cabinet has decided those taking these exams must be resident of Assam registered in the employment exchange besides having fluency in the official language or associate language or any tribal language of the state.”

To assess if there is any encroachment and how much encroachment of the land of Sattras (monasteries) a committee is formed under the former minister Pradip Hazarika. The committee will submit its report within one year.

Sarma said that the State Cabinet has approved a policy decision for extending the benefits of occupiers of Government lands for over 10 years, provided the persons in occupation of Government land are eligible for settlement as per rules and procedures and extent Government Land Policy and the land is found fit for settlement, then the provision of the cut-off date of continuous occupation of Government land since or prior to 28thJune, 2021. Earlier this was 20 years.

The State Cabinet has approved setting up of a Trust for welfare of victims of Assam Agitation and their family with a corpus of Rs 5 crores from the Government of Assam. The Trust will also be able to augment its resources using CSR funds, proceeds of book sales and donations etc.

The Trust under the chairmanship of Chief Minister, Assam will chalk out plan and schemes to aid the victims of Assam Agitation and their family members with a view to rehabilitate them effectively including better education to the children, grant of scholarship, stipend, prizes, rewards etc. to the children of the victims of Assam Agitation.
