ANI
Kolkata: The West Bengal Chief Electoral Office has sent a report to the Election Commission of India (ECI) on Monday's incident in Magrahat in South 24 Parganas district, where the vehicle of Special Rolls Observer C Murugan was attacked by a mob, along with reports on other incidents that occurred during the day in connection with the hearing process.

Murugan's vehicle was attacked and gheraoed in Magrahat, and the handle and lock of the driver's gate were broken, even as local people - mainly women - gathered around his vehicle and protested.

A large number of people, mostly women, gheraoed the vehicle as he went to the hearing centre in Magrahat, which falls under Trinamool National General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee's constituency and is considered a strong Trinamool bastion. Police had a harrowing time managing the crowd and giving passage to Murugan's convoy. Women and locals were seen thumping his vehicle, sources said.

The Election Commission has sought reports from the nodal officer, the district magistrate and the DGP regarding the incident in Magrahat, a top EC official said, adding that "legal action will be taken if the hearing is disrupted".
