Spanish biker on a world trip raped by 7 in Jharkhand's Dumka forest
A Spanish tourist was gang-raped, and her husband assaulted by seven youths in Jharkhand's Dumka district. The couple shared their ordeal on Instagram, describing the brutal attack. The police quickly responded to their plea for help, and the woma...
In the video, the woman expressed the trauma, saying, “Something has happened to us that we would not wish on anyone, seven men have raped me. They have beaten us and robbed us. Although, not many things, because they wanted to rape me. We are in hospital with the police, it happened tonight here in India.”
The police were alerted around 11pm when the woman stopped a police patrol van in the area and pleaded for help. Upon seeing her injuries and her husband’s condition, the police immediately took her to a hospital, where a medical examination confirmed sexual assault.
“Prima facie, it’s a case of rape. They were camping in a semi-forested area, around two km away from the main road. They were carrying their tent when they were waylaid,” an investigator said.
Dumka SP Pitamber Singh Kherwar stated, “All the accused have been identified and four have been arrested. They have confessed.” He added that a special investigation team (SIT) has been formed to apprehend the remaining culprits.
“The couple has been kept at a secured location following medico-legal procedures. Their statements are being recorded before a magistrate under Section 164 of the CrPC,” said Dumka deputy commissioner Anjaneyulu Dodde.
Authorities have set up a three-member medical board for the medico-legal process, indicating that the Spanish nationals arrived in Kurumahat (Dumka) from West Bengal on Friday at 5 pm and were en route to Nepal. Both the governing and opposition camps have condemned the incident in the Jharkhand assembly.
The incident has sparked outrage, with people questioning the prevailing law-and-order situation in the state. Kanchan Ugursandi, a tribal biker from Seraikela-Kharsawan known for traveling across India, expressed her dismay, stating, “I feel ashamed that such a thing has happened in my home state.” She recalled denying the state government’s offer to promote tourism through biking due to feeling unsafe riding solo in Jharkhand.
