Assam agriculture minister Atul Bora said for the effective function of gaushalas (cow sheds) department has drafted a standard operating procedure (SOP) and sent it for approval of the home department.

Bora in the state assembly stated there are 16 gaushalas across Assam.

"I have talked to the management of Gaushalas and they are facing several problems. Earlier they used to get subsided feed however after implementation of the National Food Security Act(NFSA) the same is not available," he said.


Bora said, "we have inked an MOU with National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) and are investing Rs 2000 crore with the target of processing 10 lakh liters of milk."

He added, " Around 15,000 Gir cows will be brought in the state and the same will be provided to the milk producers."
