The Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation (GMC) has proposed the installation of 1,455 high-tech cameras under the Smart City project. This move aims to enhance the city's traffic management system and ensure the safety of commuters. The estimated cost for the project is Rs 69.9 crore, a TOI report stated.

The selected locations, identified through a joint survey conducted by GMC and the traffic department, include 43 busy intersections and roundabouts. These areas will be equipped with advanced cameras featuring pan tilt zoom (PTZ), red light vehicle detection, public address systems, surveillance junction, and speed violation technology.

The Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS) will integrate various systems to optimize traffic control and enforcement. This includes features like traffic control, red-light violation detection, no-helmet detection, triple-riding detection, and automatic number plate readers (ANPR) linked to FASTag at 16 points. The ANPR cameras will capture images of speeding vehicles and traffic violators, and the challans will be sent directly to the driver's address.

To monitor the ITMS effectively, a command center will be established, equipped with a giant LED screen. The center will operate 24x7, ensuring constant surveillance and prompt action. The setup cost for the command center alone is estimated to be Rs 5.5 crore.

The ITMS project aims to enhance traffic management, reduce violations, and improve overall road safety. It will also be linked to the Regional Transport Office (RTO) database, facilitating efficient monitoring and enforcement.

The state government is currently reviewing the proposal submitted by the GMC. Once approved, this initiative will significantly contribute to the development of Ghaziabad's transportation infrastructure and enhance the overall commuting experience for its residents.
