Sons clash over father's last rites, demand body to be cut into two pieces in Madhya Pradesh

Two brothers in Tikamgarh district, Madhya Pradesh, clashed over performing the last rites of their deceased father on Sunday, leading to a tense situation in their village. The disagreement escalated to the point where one of them proposed dividing the body into two parts for separate cremations.

Villagers Alert Police as Dispute Escalates

Dhyani Singh Ghosh, 85, died a natural death in Tal Lidhora village. However, his body remained unattended as his sons, Damodar Singh and Kishan Singh, disagreed on who should perform the final rites. As the dispute intensified, some villagers informed the police.

Senior police officers and district administration reached the spot and tried to pacify the brothers. When efforts to reconcile them failed, officers consulted the deceased’s family and villagers to find a resolution.

Authorities Allow Elder Son to Perform Rituals

Damodar, who had taken care of his ailing father, was preparing for the cremation when Kishan arrived with his family, insisting that he should perform the rituals. The argument escalated, leading to a physical altercation that shocked the villagers. Kishan then suggested dividing the body so that both could conduct their own rites.

Despite appeals from relatives and villagers, Kishan refused to step back. After discussions, authorities decided to allow Damodar to proceed with the cremation in Kishan’s presence and under official supervision.
