Sonam Wangchuk meets Zoramthanga, wants to study Mizo Peace Accord

Guwahati: Environmentalist Sonam Wangchuk met former Mizoram CM Zoramthanga and expressed his desire to study the Mizo Peace Accord which had brought lasting peace in Mizoram.

Mizoram is now one of the most peaceful states after the signing of the accord. The Memorandum of Settlement in 1986, which ended two decades of strife and insurgency, resulted in Mizoram becoming the 23rd state of India on February 20, 1987.

"I want to study the successful Memorandum of Settlement of Mizoram and understand more about the experiences of Zoramthanga, who played a key role in the Mizo Peace Accord," Wangchuk was quoted as saying in a release.


Zoramthanga told Wangchuk that the accord has attracted interest from those seeking to study conflict resolution.
