Climate activist Sonam Wangchuk, Sajjad Kargili, along with several other protestors, were released by Delhi Police on Wednesday evening and allowed to go to Rajghat on Gandhi Jayanti as the government informally promised to resume dialogue with the representatives of Ladakh.

Wangchuk, Kargili and other protestors were detained on Monday evening near the Delhi border, when they were on their way to Rajghat to conclude their month-long padayatra from Ladakh to press for the demands for statehood and Sixth Schedule for Ladakh. Lok Sabha member from Ladakh, Haji Haneefa Jan, was also detained on Tuesday morning in Delhi and released late at night.

"We were released in the afternoon and promised that dialogue with the representatives of Ladakh will be resumed and our demands will be deliberated upon," said Kargili of Kargil Democratic Alliance (KDA). He informed that the authorities promised that they would allow a peaceful gathering at Jantar Mantar on Thursday.

"We will go back and deliberate on the promises conveyed to us telephonically. KDA and the Apex Body Leh will sit together and come out with a unanimous decision on this matter. Our struggle for our legitimate demands will continue," said Kargili, who accompanied Wangchuk at Rajghat.
