Delhi and areas around the national capital could get relief from the sweltering heat wave before the temperatures start rising again from next week.

Senior scientist at IMD, RK Jenamani, said that the temperatures have already fallen by around 2-3 degree Celsius today from yesterday's high in Delhi.

He said that due to western disturbance, cloud cover has increased and there will be relief for the next 3-4 days before the temperatures start rising again.

On Sunday, north India was in the grips of a severe heat wave with temperatures in Uttar Pradesh's Banda hitting 49 degree Celsius.

Jenamani further added that the southwest monsoon has already arrived over Andaman sea and adjoining SE Bay of Bengal and will hit Kerala by May 27.
