Not everyone was able to catch a glimpse of the 'Ring of Fire' solar eclipse as passed over India. Cloud cover in Mumbai, Karnataka and Delhi blocked much of the long-awaited view on Thursday morning.

Even Prime Minister Narendra Modi was left disappointed at cloudy skies hampered his view from the national capital. The rare celestial event began to cross over India at around 8:07 am and lasted till 10:57 am.

Solar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes between the Earth and the Sun, totally or partly obscuring the Sun for a viewer on Earth. An annular solar eclipse takes place when the moon's apparent diameter is smaller than that of the Sun's, blocking most of the Sun's light. This causes the Sun to look like a 'Ring of Fire'.
