The Samyukta Kisan Morcha on Friday welcomed the PM's announcement to repeal the three contentious farm laws, a demand for which they have been agitating for more than a year. The SKM in a press statement made it clear that the protest would continue till the announcement took effect through due parliamentary procedures.

"The agitation won't end quickly. We will wait for the day when three laws will be repealed through Parliament. In addition, the government should also talk about giving MSP guarantee to farmers," BKU leader Rakesh Tikait posted on social media.

The SKM leaders are likely to call a meeting of farmers' unions in a day or two to take a call on how and when to end the protest. During the meeting, they would also deliberate on how to take the unity forward and keep raising farmers' issues. "This is not the end. There are several issues like MSP, Electricity Amendment Bill," Kirti Kisan Union vice president Rajinder Singh Deepsinghwala told ET.

"Nearly 700 farmers have been martyred... The central government's obstinacy is responsible for these avoidable deaths," the SKM said.
