On Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid a visit and offered prayers at the ancient Veerabhadra temple in Andhra Pradesh, which is highly significant in the Ramayana. At the Sri Satyasai district temple, the PM offered special prayers. The shrine is very important to Hinduism and the Ramayana.

Lepakshi legend
The legend has it that Lepakshi is the place where the mythical vulture Jatayu fell after being grievously wounded by demon king Ravana who had abducted Sita. The place finds its mention in Ramayana.

Jatayu granted Moksha
The dying Jatayu told Lord Ram that Sita was indeed taken south by Ravana, and was then granted Moksha (salvation) by him. There is also a belief that the Lepakshi temple has preserved footprints belonging to Goddess Sita.
