Sidhu Moose Wala: What we know so far about the Punjabi rapper's death

Shubhdeep Singh Sidhu, popularly referred to by his stage name - Sidhu Moose Wala - was a Punjabi rapper who was shot dead on May 29 in Punjab's Jawaharke village.

Moose Wala had contested this year's Punjab Assembly elections on a Congress ticket from Mansa and was defeated by AAP candidate Vijay Singla.

Goldy Brar - a Canada-based gangster - has claimed responsibility for killing the recently anointed Congress leader. Brar claims that Moose Wala's shooting was retaliation for the death of youth Akali leader Vicky Middukhera.

Lawrence Bishnoi - an associate of Brar - is currently being sought by the Punjab Police. Brar himself is lodged in Tihar Jail and will be questioned in connection with the shooting.

Based on a complaint by the dead rapper's father, an FIR has been registered under sections: 302, 307, 341, 148, 149, 427, 120-B of the Indian Penal Code and sections 25 and 27 of the Arms Act.

Punjab Director General of Police VK Bhawra Sunday said Sidhu Moose Wala's murder seemed to be the fallout of an inter-gang rivalry. He added that 30 rounds of bullets were fired at the singer and at least three weapons might have been used in the crime.
