Congress MP Shashi Tharoor had an unexpected guest at his residence on Wednesday—a monkey that left him and social media users in awe. Sharing the incident on X (formerly Twitter), Tharoor described how the animal approached him while he was reading the morning newspaper in his garden.

"Extraordinary Experience"

"Had an extraordinary experience today," Tharoor wrote. "While I was sitting in the garden, reading my morning newspapers, a monkey wandered in, headed straight for me and parked himself on my lap. He hungrily ate a couple of bananas we offered him, hugged me and proceeded to rest his head on my chest and dozed off."

The Congress leader added, "I gently began to get up, he leapt off and loped away."

A Peaceful Interaction

Tharoor acknowledged that he was initially concerned about the risk of a monkey bite, which could have necessitated rabies shots. However, his calm approach and reverence for wildlife helped make the encounter peaceful. "I am gratified that my faith was borne out and our encounter was entirely peaceful and gentle," he said.
