A high-level Indian parliamentary delegation, led by Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, met with US Vice President JD Vance in Washington, DC, on Thursday, in a significant step under India’s ongoing diplomatic outreach following Operation Sindoor.

The multi-party delegation, comprising parliamentarians from across the political spectrum, is on a mission to engage with international stakeholders, strengthen strategic partnerships, and reinforce India’s firm stance against cross-border terrorism.

Shashi Tharoor described the meeting as “excellent” in a post on X, noting that the two sides held comprehensive discussions spanning key global and bilateral issues.

“We had comprehensive discussions covering a wide array of critical issues, from counter-terrorism efforts to enhancing technological cooperation. A truly constructive and productive exchange for strengthening the India-U.S. strategic partnership, with a great meeting of minds,” the Congress MP wrote.

Speaking after the meeting, Tharoor underscored the significance of the delegation's composition, stressing its representation of India’s diversity.

"At the White House, we had a very good discussion with Vice President Vance,” he said. “Our delegation consists of eight people—seven members of Parliament and a former ambassador to the U.S.—and the eight of us represent eight different states in India. We represent five different political parties and three different religions. So we really do cover, in many ways, the diversity of India. But we are here with a united message.

The discussions also touched upon regional security, economic collaboration, and the future of India-US technological ties—areas both countries have prioritized in recent years.

The delegation’s visit to the US is part of a broader international engagement against cross-border terrorism, which includes stops in Latin America, aimed at presenting a united Indian political front on the global issue.
