Shashi Tharoor absolved in Sunanda case

Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, who was cleared by a Delhi Court on Wednesday of all charges in connection with the death of his wife Sunanda Pushkar, has said he patiently weathered unfounded acquisitions and media vilification, sustained by his faith in the judiciary.

In a statement, Tharoor thanked Judge Geetanjali Goel for her orders, “discharging me from the charges levied by the Delhi Police, which I have consistently described as preposterous”, and added, “This brings a significant conclusion to the long nightmare which had enveloped me after the tragic passing of my late wife Sunanda. I have weathered dozens of unfounded acquisitions and media vilification patiently, sustained by my faith in the Indian judiciary, which today stands vindicated”.

Tharoor further said, “In our justice system, the process is all too often the punishment. Nonetheless, the fact that justice has been done, at last, will allow all of us in the family to mourn Sunanda in peace”. He also thanked his lawyers, particularly Vikas Pahwa and Gaurav Gupta.


The court order brings a decisive vindication for Tharoor who had to fight years of ordeal. In the middle of the tormenting police charges and court trials, Tharoor also demonstrated his remarkable grit and determination by scoring two more Lok Sabha poll victories from Thiruvananthapuram and by authoring many books, besides demonstrating his active participation in Parliament and in the politics against the RSS-BJP and also within the Congress.
