Home minister Amit Shah on Tuesday met Jal Shakti minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat and top officials to review preparations for the monsoon season and potential floods in the country.

Several decisions were taken at the meeting which were aimed at setting up a system of coordination between the weather office (IMD), Jal Shakti Ministry, Central Water Commission (CWC) and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF).

Shah also reviewed the long-term measures for formulation of a comprehensive and overarching policy to mitigate the perennial floods problem in the country.


He urged officials to continue to strengthen coordination between the central and state agencies to have a permanent system for forecasting of floods and rise in water levels in the country’s major catchment zones and other areas of the country.
