The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), while extending the ban on terrorist outfit Sikhs For Justice (SFJ) late Tuesday, noted that "SFJ is supporting groups fighting for Khalistan in India and elsewhere by indulging in activities and articulation intended to disrupt the sovereignty and territorial integrity of India." SFJ's chief patron Gurupatwant Singh Pannun is based in the US and has been issuing statements against India.

The ban on SFJ was issued by again declaring it an unlawful association for a further period of five years from July 10, 2024. The Union home ministry extended the ban on SFJ under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967, citing its involvement in "anti-national and subversive activities aimed at disrupting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of India".

ET, on July 8, 2024, was the first to report on the fresh ban against SFJ. According to a notification, the SFJ has been found to be involved in activities that are prejudicial to the internal security of India and public order.
