Guwahati: The High Commissioner of Seychelles to India, Harisoa Lalatiana Accouche, called on Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya, at Lok Bhavan and discussed issues of mutual interest between Assam and Seychelles.

Acharya said that Seychelles is globally admired for its natural beauty, ecological richness and unique biodiversity. Drawing attention of Seychelles envoy, Acharya said that Assam located in the northeastern part of India, is also renowned for its scenic beauty, vibrant cultural heritage and rich biodiversity.

Highlighting Assam’s strengths, the Governor said that the state is home to the world-famous Kaziranga National Park, known for the one-horned rhinoceros. Moreover, the sprawling tea gardens, the mighty Brahmaputra, unique muga silk, colourful festivals like Bihu and a deep spiritual and cultural heritage are the high poins of Assam. He noted that the state offers immense potential as a destination for tourism and cultural engagement.


The Governor expressed optimism about the scope for cultural exchange programmes between Assam and Seychelles to strengthen people-to-people ties and deepen mutual understanding. He observed that despite geographical distances, Assam and Seychelles share common concerns and interests in areas such as biodiversity conservation, environmental protection and sustainable development.

Acharya also underscored the importance of collaboration in ecological preservation, sustainable tourism practices, education and skill development. He welcomed the possibility of academic exchanges and opportunities for students from Seychelles to pursue studies in educational institutions in Assam.

The Governor further highlighted the rapid transformation taking place in Assam under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, particularly in the sectors like infrastructure, connectivity, education and economic growth. He stated that enhanced air, rail, road and inland waterway connectivity has opened new vistas for international engagement and partnerships.

The High Commissioner of Seychelles invited the Governor to visit Seychelles as both of them expressed hope for a long-lasting friendship and meaningful cooperation between Assam and Seychelles in the coming days.
