Severe heatwave sweeps North, Central India; IMD sounds Red alert
The India Meteorological Department issues red and orange alerts as severe heatwave conditions continue across north-west, central and eastern India. Delhi-NCR is expected to witness temperatures up to 46 degrees Celsius over the next week, while states including Uttar Pradesh, Vidarbha and Andhra Pradesh remain under red alert. In Vijayawada, authorities install green shade nets at traffic intersections to protect commuters from extreme heat.
