Severe heatwave pushes temperature to closer to 48 degrees in many states. Here are hottest places in India
Heat wave conditions persist in Northwest India, Haryana, Delhi, Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Saurashtra, Kutch, Vidarbha, and Marathwada as per IMD. Temperatures have inched closer to 48 degrees in many places

Sirsa (Haryana) had recorded a temperature of 47.8 degrees on Tuesday while Najafgarh (Delhi) was the hottest in India on Monday, recording a temperature of 47.4 degrees.

- Akola (Maharashtra) 44.0
- Durg(Chhattisgarh) 43.6
- Una (Himachal Pradesh) 42.4
- Nuapada (Odisha) 42.2
Warm night conditions have been reported in parts of Rajasthan. Maximum temperatures have exceeded 40°C in several regions. On Tuesday, temperatures ranged from 44-47°C in most parts of Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi, many parts of Rajasthan, and some places in the Gujarat region, Punjab, West Madhya Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh, according to IMD. In many parts of Vidarbha, east Madhya Pradesh, and some parts of Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, Saurashtra & Kutch, temperatures ranged from 40-44°C. These temperatures were above normal by 4-6°C in many places in Delhi and by 2-4°C in many parts of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and isolated pockets of Rajasthan, Saurashtra & Kutch, and West Uttar Pradesh.
IMD's heatwave warning
Heat wave, warm night, and hot and humid weather warnings for the next five days indicate that heat wave to severe heat wave conditions are very likely in many pockets of Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi, and West Rajasthan. Some parts of West Uttar Pradesh, East Rajasthan, and northwest Madhya Pradesh will experience these conditions from May 21-25, with isolated pockets of East Uttar Pradesh affected during the same period.
Heat wave conditions are also expected in isolated pockets of East Uttar Pradesh on May 21 and 22, and in Jammu division, Himachal Pradesh, Gujarat state, northeast Madhya Pradesh from May 21-25, Vidarbha from May 22-25, and north Madhya Maharashtra from May 22-24, 2024.
Warm night conditions are expected to prevail over West Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan from May 22-25, 2024.
