The leak triggered panic at the facility, with dozens of workers complaining of breathing difficulties and other symptoms associated with toxic gas exposure.
Emergency teams rushed the affected workers to nearby hospitals as authorities launched rescue and relief operations.
According to Thiruvallur District Collector S Kavitha, a total of 67 workers were admitted to medical facilities following the incident. Of them, 46 are undergoing treatment at Vels Hospital, while 21 have been admitted to Venkateshwara Hospital.
The condition of several workers remains critical.
Nine of the most seriously affected patients were later shifted by ambulance to Government Stanley Medical College Hospital in Chennai for specialised treatment.
