Guwahati: A senior cadre of the anti-talk faction of the United Liberation Front of Asom (Ulfa) and one of his accomplices surrendered to the Assam Rifles on Sunday.

The commander, Arunodoi Asom alias Bijit Gogoi, had been attached to the 709 company of the organisation, also known as Ulfa (Independent).

Dahotia, known to be a trusted comrade of Ulfa (I) chief Paresh Baruah, surrendered along with one of his bodyguards, Francis Asom.

Sources in the police said that Dahotia and Francis Asom surrendered to the Assam Rifles near Pangsau Pass along the India-Myanmar border in Arunachal Pradesh.

Dahotia had been wanted in several terrorist activities, including the attack and subsequent killing of Assam police officer Bhaskar Kalita in 2018, and a grenade attack on a military station in Assam’s Jorhat district.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) had, in September last year, filed a chargesheet against seven Ulfa (I) cadres, including Arunodoy Dahotia alias Bijit Gogoi.

The NIA had also filed another chargesheet in June last year regarding the grenade attack on the military station in Jorhat, in which Dahotia was named.

Arunoday is from Dibrugarh in Upper Assam and joined the outfit in 2002.
