In a related move, Daljit Singh Chauhary, IPS (UP:90), currently the Director General of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), has been appointed as the new Director General of the Border Security Force (BSF). Chauhary’s tenure at the BSF will extend until November 30, 2025.
Earlier in 2022, Rajwinder Singh Bhatti, a 1990-batch IPS officer, had been appointed as the new Director General of Police (DGP) of Bihar. Bhatti, who was then serving as ADG (East Command) of Seema Suraksha Bal on central deputation, will take over from S K Singhal, who is set to retire on December 19. Bhatti's appointment, announced on Sunday, aims to address crime and liquor smuggling in the state.
Bhatti, commonly known as RS Bhatti, has a notable record in law enforcement. He gained prominence for orchestrating the arrest of former Siwan MP Md Shahabuddin in 2005. Earlier in his career, Bhatti served in various capacities in Bihar, such as City SP of Patna, ASP of Barh, and SP in Jehanabad, Gopalganj, and Purnia. He also held positions as DIG (Siwan), IG (Patna zone), IG (security), joint director of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), and director general (civil aviation).
"Known as a hard task master and no-nonsense police officer, Bhatti will replace S K Singhal, who is to superannuate on December 19," according to the notification issued by additional chief secretary (home) Chaitanya Prasad. Bhatti's reputation for diligence and strict enforcement is expected to enhance policing in Bihar.
"While serving as the ASP of Barh, Bhatti had arrested the then RJD legislator and strongman Dilip Kumar Singh from his Patna residence," the sources noted. Dilip Kumar Singh, a minister during the Lalu Prasad regime, was the elder brother of former MLA Anant Kumar Singh.
