Sena slams BJP for trolling Shah Rukh Khan after misinterpreting prayer

The Shiv Sena has condemned BJP leaders for tweeting, 'actor Shah Rukh Khan spat on the mortal remains of Lata Mangeshkar'. Videos on twitter showed SRK ended his prayer by 'blowing into the air' as per Islamic tradition, which was misinterpreted as 'spitting.'

"The manner in which Shah Rukh Khan has been trolled while he was praying by a specific group, who belong to a specific 'parvirar', is nothing but utter shamelessness and foolishness. You continue to troll an actor even during the death of a famous artiste. You can't see anything beyond religion, caste and hate. You have destroyed the country," said Shiv Sena spokesperson Sanjay Raut.

Raut's reference to the constant attack on Khan was also a reference to the arrest of SRK's son Aryan Khan in a NDPS case a few months ago. BJP functionaries from Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra had tweeted images of SRK and alleged that he had spat. The images went viral after the claim.


Urmila Matondkar also slammed the BJP's Haryana functionary for questioning SRK. "This is not spitting. This is called offering up a prayer and blowing into the wind. This culture also represents India... Listen to this one song by India's great daughter where she speaks of providing good sense to everyone and how each human being is God's child."

"Some people are not good enough for prayers or for pity, they just need medicine to remove the poison from their heads," tweeted Shiv Sena Rajya Sabha MP Priyanka Chaturvedi. NCP leader Chhagan Bhujbal said that there were some people who were just trying to spread communal poison and hate. "Some people have no other job but to create hate, they are unemployed, this is what they do the whole day targeting a particular community," he said.
