A security force personnel was killed in an exchange of fire that took place across the Koutruk, Haraothel, and Senjam Chirang areas of Manipur.

The police started exchanging fire between armed miscreants in Koutruk, Haraothel, and Senjam Chirang areas in which two persons including one security personnel sustained bullet injuries. Security Forces retaliated with the firing and repelled the miscreants. The security personnel succumbed to his injury.

The police stated that during the last 24 hours, the situation in the state is still volatile and tense with sporadic incidents of firing and congregation of unruly mob. Security Forces have conducted search operations in the vulnerable and fringe areas of the State. Joint security forces conducted operation in Koutruk hill range and destroyed seven illegal bunkers.


An unruly mob stormed 2d IRB, Naranseina, Keirenphabi Police Outpost and Thangalawai Police Outpost in Bishnupur District and took away huge cache of arms and ammunitions. The mob also attempted to snatch arms and ammunitions from 7h Bn. Manipur Rifles, 2d Bn. Manipur Rifles, Heingang Police Station and Singjamei Police Station but security forces repelled them.

An unruly crowd of 500-600 persons congregated at Phougakchao Ikhai and Security Forces fired tear gas shells to disperse the crowd in which around 25 persons sustained minor injuries.

A total of 129 Nakas/ Checkpoints were installed in different Districts of Manipur, both in the hill and the valley and Police detained 1047 persons in connection with violations in different districts of the State.

Police stated movement of 284 vehicles on NH-37 and 32 (thirty-two) vehicles on NH-2 with essential items have been ensured. Strict security measures are taken up in all vulnerable locations and security convoy is provided in sensitive stretches in order to ensure free and safe movement of the vehicles.
