Second arrest in Jiribam killings, Manipur HC pushes for chargesheet

Guwahati: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has made a second arrest in the brutal November 2024 Jiribam killings, detaining Lalrosang Hmar alias Rosang from Aizawl, Mizoram, on Thursday. This follows the recent arrest of another accused, Thanglienlal Hmar, also from Aizawl.

The case pertains to the abduction and murder of three Meitei women and three children - including a 10-month-old infant - by militants in Manipur's Borobekra area on November 11 last year. Their bullet-ridden bodies were later recovered from the Barak River along the Manipur-Assam border.

Lalrosang is believed to be an active conspirator in the crime. NIA has seized a mobile phone and SIM card from him, which are being examined as part of case RC-15/2024/NIA/IMP.


The Manipur High Court, meanwhile, has directed the NIA to file a chargesheet within a month in connection with the case. The directive came after the Centre submitted two sealed progress reports to the court. A Division Bench comprising Chief Justice K. Somashekar and Justice Ahanthem Bimol Singh passed the order while hearing a PIL filed by Uripok Apunba Lup, a civil society organisation seeking judicial oversight.
