MEA's P Kumaran to make 6-day visit to Colombia and Peru; rare earths cooperation on agenda

P. Kumaran, Secretary (East) will embark on a 6-day visit to Colombia and Peru starting August 21 with an aim to review various elements of bilateral relations

Shri P. Kumaran, Secretary (East) will visit Colombia and Peru from August 21 – 26, 2025 to review various elements of our growing bilateral relations, Ministry of External Affairs announced on Tuesday.

Kumaran is said to meet ministers and senior officials in of Colombia and Peru to discuss areas of mutual interest and bilateral, regional and multilateral issues. The issues on the agenda include trade and commerce, mining, energy, health and pharmaceuticals, defence, infrastructure, and cooperation in IT and digital sectors.


He will also interact with representatives of the business community and think tanks.

"Colombia and Peru are India’s important partners in the South American region with whom India has growing trade relations, with scope for diversification in trade, commerce and investment, including cooperation in energy, critical minerals and rare earths," MEA said in a release.

The visit of Secretary (East) reflects India’s continued commitment to enhancing its engagement with Latin America and the Caribbean region, it added.

P Kumaran was appointed as Secretary (East) on April 1, 2025.
