The declaration adopted by consensus, issued after Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his speech slammed double standards in fighting terror, condemned terrorism in all its forms and manifestations. The declaration stressed that double standards in the fight against terrorism are unacceptable and called on the international community to combat terrorism, including cross-border movement of terrorists, with the central role of the UN by fully implementing the relevant UN Security Council resolution and the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy. These should be done in accordance with the UN Charter and the principles of international law, in order to combat all terrorist organisations, it said.
The member states strongly condemned the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam and expressed their deepest sympathy and condolences to the families of the dead and the wounded. They further stated that perpetrators, organisers and sponsors of such attacks must be brought to justice, according to the declaration.
"The member states, while reaffirming their firm commitment to the fight against terrorism, separatism and extremism, stress the inadmissibility of attempts to use terrorist, separatist and extremist groups for mercenary purposes. They recognise the leading role of sovereign states and their competent authorities in countering terrorist and extremist threats," the joint statement said.
In his statement at the opening session, Modi, in the presence of the Pakistani PM, came down heavily on cross-border terror.
