Schools in Delhi, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana will remain shut on Monday, September 16, on Eid-e-Milad.

Eid-e-Milad is an annual festival which marks the birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad (SAW), who Muslims consider as the final messenger of Allah. According to Islamic tradition, Prophet Muhammad was born in Mecca around 570 AD. Several states have declared holidays for schools and colleges in honor of this occasion. This year the Eid-e-Milad starts from Sunday, September 15, and will be observed to the evening of Monday, September 16, 2024 and schools have declared holiday on Monday as well.

The Delhi government, as per its academic calendar released earlier this year, designated a holiday for Eid-e-Milad. Accordingly, schools, colleges, and government and private banks in Delhi will be closed tomorrow, September 16.


The Telangana government, following its academic calendar, has also declared a holiday for all schools, both government and private, on September 16 for Eid-e-Milad.

The Andhra Pradesh government has announced a public holiday on September 16, with schools, colleges, and other educational institutions remaining closed. Students will enjoy an extended weekend from Saturday to Monday.

The Maharashtra government has rescheduled its Eid-e-Milad holiday from September 16 to September 18, following requests from organizations planning to hold Eid-e-Milad processions on September 18. The move is aimed at avoiding any conflict with Ganpati immersion ceremonies on September 17.

However, students are advised to stay informed through their respective schools for any changes.
