School winter holidays in 2023-24: State-wise list of winter vacations

Winter vacation in schools is a cherished time for students, typically lasting from late December to early January. Students eagerly anticipate the joyous season Many states have announced the winter vacation for schools and over the next few states many more will release the schedule.

Delhi

For 2023-24, the Delhi government has reduced the winter vacations in Delhi schools from 15 to 6 days, as a part of the winter vacation was observed in November as schools were shut due to poor air quality. "The Winter Vacation for the Academic Session 2023-24 was earlier scheduled to be observed from January 1, 2024 (Monday) to January 15, 2024 (Monday). However, to ensure that our students are not adversely affected due to the poor air quality in Delhi, a portion of winter vacation was observed from November 9 to 18, 2023," Delhi Education Department circular reads.

"In view of the above, the remaining portion of the Winter Vacation for Academic Session 2023-2024 is scheduled to be observed from 01.01.2024 (Monday) to 06.01.2024 (Saturday). All the heads of schools in Delhi are hereby directed to disseminate this information among all the stakeholders, including the teaching and non-teaching staff, students and parents, through SMC members, mass SMS facilities, phone Calls/ and other suitable means of communication," the circular added.

Rajasthan

The Rajasthan Board of Secondary Education (RBSE) has announced that the winter vacation will start from December 25.
Taking to X, the Rajasthan Board announced on Monday stating, "Winter vacation will start from December 25." RBSE has also announced dates for class 10 and class 12 board exams. The exams for both RBSE class 10 and 12, are scheduled to commence from February 15, 2024; and will go on till April 20, 2024.

Directorate of School Education, Jammu

The Directorate of School Education, Jammu has announced the winter vacation schedule for the winter zones in the Jammu division. The vacations will be observed in a phased manner from December 11, 2023, to February 29, 2024, for all Government and recognized private schools. According to the Directorate, students up to the 8th standard will have their winter vacations from December 11, 2023, to February 29, 2024. On the other hand, students from 9th to 12th standard will have their vacations from December 18 to February 29. To ensure continuity of education, the Chief Education Officers of the respective districts will ensure online classes for Class 10th and 12th through CRC's (Cluster Resource Centers).
