The Supreme Court on Tuesday scheduled May 5, 2025, as the next date of hearing in the case concerning show-cause notices issued to online gaming firms ad casinos by the Directorate General of GST Intelligence (DGGI). The notices involve an alleged tax liability of Rs 1.12 lakh crore.

The matter was heard by a bench led by Justice J B Pardiwala. During the proceedings, counsel for the companies sought an adjournment, stating that they had expected only a date-fixing exercise. However, the Additional Solicitor General urged the court to commence arguments.

Justice Pardiwala clarified that the bench had reviewed only this case and was ready to proceed. “We understood the matter is being heard today,” the bench said, adding that all necessary directions were already on record.

Given the expected length of arguments, which may span four to five days, the court decided to begin formal hearings from May 5.
