SC has summoned Rajesh Kumar, additional chief secretary, revenue and forest department, Maharashtra, in person to explain why contempt proceedings should not be initiated against him.

A bench headed by justice BR Gavai summoned Kumar after observing that certain comments in the affidavit filed by him on behalf of the state were "prima facie contemptuous". Kumar has been directed to remain present in person on September 9 and showcause as to why contempt be not initiated against him.
