SC stays Tripura HC order seeking scrutiny of security cover of Mukesh Ambani & family

The Supreme Court Wednesday stayed an order of the Tripura High Court by which it had summoned records pertaining to threat perception of industrialist Mukesh Ambani and his family members in Mumbai.

A vacation Bench of Justices Surya Kant and J B Pardiwala stayed the direction of the Tripura High Court by which it sought to scrutinise the security cover given to Ambani family.

Appearing on behalf of the Centre, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta argued that the petitioner who has filed the public interest litigation “confines his public interest to few individuals residing in Mumbai”. Mehta argued that the Tripura High Court has “no concern” with the matter at hand.


Acting on a public interest litigation (PIL) filed by one Bikash Saha, the Tripura High Court vide its orders dated May 31 and June 21 had directed the Ministry of Home Affairs to produce the original file pertaining to threat perception and assessment report of Mukesh Ambani and family.

The Tripura High Court had also summoned the MHA officials along with the record. The High Court had ordered that the record be produced in a sealed cover stating that no further adjournment would be granted in the case. The said orders were appealed against by the Centre in the Supreme Court earlier this week. The appeal was taken up on Wednesday by the vacation bench.
