SC recommends appointment of five new HC Chief Justices

The SC Collegium in its resolution dated February 9 said that in light of the fact that the incumbent Chief Justice Prakash Shrivastava will retire on March 30, the collegium has recommended Justice Sivagnanam as his successor.

The Supreme Court Collegium Thursday recommended new Chief Justices for High Courts (HCs) of Manipur, Gujarat, Chhattisgarh, Calcutta and Allahabad.

Justice Pritinker Diwaker has been recommended for elevation as Chief Justice of Allahabad HC. Justice Sonia G Gokani has been recommended as the Chief Justice of Gujarat HC. Justice Dhiraj Singh Thakur has been recommended to be appointed as Chief Justice of Manipur HC. Justice Thakur, whose parent High Court is the Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh High Court, has been a judge of the Bombay High Court since June 10, 2022.

Justice T S Sivagnanam has been recommended to be appointed as the next Chief Justice of Calcutta High Court.


The SC Collegium in its resolution dated February 9 said that in light of the fact that the incumbent Chief Justice Prakash Shrivastava will retire on March 30, the collegium has recommended Justice Sivagnanam as his successor.

The Collegium has recommended the appointment of Justice Ramesh Sinha to the Chhattisgarh High Court.

The Collegium said in its resolution that the office of the Chief Justice of the HC of Chhattisgarh would be falling vacant on 10 March 2023, consequent upon retirement of Justice Arup Kumar Goswami. Therefore, an appointment to that office is required to be made.
