The Supreme Court reprimanded the Centre for not taking quick action for guidelines on Covid death certificate, compensation to those that have lost their kin to Covid-19.

"By the time you take further steps, the third wave will also be over. The order on death certificate, compensation, etc, was passed long back," the Supreme Court said.

On 16th August, the bench had asked for a compliance affidavit with regards to the directions for guidelines on Covid death certificates by 3rd September. However, an extension of a week (till September 11) was sought from the bench.

In the same judgement, the bench had asked the National Disaster Management Authority to frame guidelines to grant compensation to those that were dependents of people that lost their lives to Covid-19, within 6 weeks.
