The Supreme Court on Tuesday cancelled the medical bail granted to former DHFL promoter Dheeraj Wadhawan in the multi-crore rupee bank loan fraud case, setting aside the Delhi High Court order.

The bench directed Wadhawan to surrender within two weeks and asked jail authorities along with the CBI to ensure that he receives specialised medical care as recommended by the medical board constituted earlier this year.

This decision overrides an earlier Delhi High Court order that had allowed Wadhawan bail on health grounds. He had claimed that his medical issues were serious and could not be managed in jail custody.

The court had earlier set a committee of 11 doctors to assess his medical condition. The report furnished by the doctors’ panel on July 9 had stated that Wadhawan does not need any hospitalisation, but only required continuation of ongoing medication, regular and periodic check ups, including physiotherapy.
