A special court of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Thursday extended till June 13 the Enforcement Directorate's custody of Delhi Cabinet minister Satyendar Kumar Jain, who is being questioned in connection with a money laundering case. Jain was arrested by the ED on May 30.

The counsel for the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Thursday sought further custody of Jain on the ground that during raids earlier this week, the agency had recovered several things and Jain needed to be confronted with people whose houses were raided. The lawyer for Jain, however, opposed the ED's plea of further remand and applied for bail. Taking stock of contentions of both the parties, the court granted further custodial interrogation of Jain till June 13.

On Tuesday, the ED had claimed that it had recovered ₹2.85 crore in cash and 133 gold coins from alleged accomplices of Jain.

"During the search, various incriminating documents and digital records were seized," the ED had said in a press statement on Tuesday. "The cash, amounting to ₹2.85 crore, and 133 gold coins weighing 1.80 kg in total from unexplained source were found to be secreted in the said premises and were seized under PMLA (Prevention of Money Laundering Act)," the ED had said.

As reported by ET last week, the ED has "recorded an incriminating" statement of an individual linked to one of the alleged shell companies "beneficially owned and controlled" by Jain.
