Sandeshkhali villagers play untimely Holi after Shahjahan arrest

Kolkata: Sandeshkhali villagers are in jubilant mood and people play untimely holi on Thursday morning after arrest of absconding Trinamool leader Sheikh Shahjahan.

"We are very happy that Shahjahan has been arrested. We are relieved now has been arrested," a villager said.

Villagers played Holi this morning and firecrackers were burst after his arrest last midnight. Villagers, especially women, had complained about sexual assault and land grabbing in Sandeshkhali, and protested for long with sticks and brooms in various pockets of Sandeshkhali. Police and administration have opened camps and returning land of the villagers have started.


BJP and all opposition parties have shown solidarity in the protest.

BJP state President Sukanta Majumdar, "We have been holding movement on Sandeshkhali issue. Sheikh Shajahan has been arrested. We are still organizing dharna in kolkata. The arrest has been possible for the movement."

Sujan Chakraborty CPI-M leader, said, "Shahjahan Sheikh was in police safety net. Following pressure, his arrest has been shown today."

Trinamool leadership welcomed the arrest and said "Raj dharma" ghastly been done. "We welcome the effort of state police.we had full faith on police and administration. Our Trinamool Congress national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee had pointed about HC and after that HC said arrest can be done by police," Kunal Ghosh Trinamool Congress spokesperson said today.
