Sandeshkhali row: TMC leader Sheikh Shahjahan's brother Sheikh Alamgir and two others remanded to police custody

Kolkata: Arrested Trinamool leader Sheikh Shahjahan's brother Sheikh Alamgir and two others were remanded to police custody after their production in Basirhat court today following their arrests last night. Meanwhile, sporadic protests erupted in Sandeshkhali's Rampur with villagers protesting over land grab. BJP leader and advocate Priyanka Tibrewal with a team of advocates have created a camp in Sandeshkhali to collect complaints from villagers.

The interrogation process will start from today evening, CBI sources said. Sheikh Alamgir and others were reportedly seen in the scene of attack on the day ED officials came under attack on January 5 at the premises of Sheikh Shahjahan.

The CBI also appealed in court today for the custody of other persons, who were arrested by West Bengal Police, and wanted to interrogate them. State Police had arrested seven others in connection with the case.


A three-member CBI team today visited Sheikh Shahjahan's close aide Bappa Mondal's office. On January 5, Mondal was in Sandeshkhali and sleuths wanted to find out why he reached the spot where ED was attacked. The CBi team went to Bappa Mondal's brick kiln and office. However, Bappa was not in his Minakhan office and other employees were questioned.

Another team of CBI today went to Sanjoy Mondal's residence in Rampur under Sandeshkhali area to talk to his family members. Sanjoy Mondal was arrested by state police after the January 5 attack.
