Sameer Wankhede, whose term as NCB zonal director ended on Monday, has not been given an extension. Instead, he has been asked to report to his parent department - the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Delhi. The development comes a day after Maharashtra NCP minister Nawab Malik claimed that certain influential BJP leaders were lobbying with the Union home ministry in Delhi to ensure that Wankhede was given an extension in the NCB and posted in Mumbai itself.

Wankhede's tenure as the zonal director, NCB, was quite controversial. Infact, the arrest of actor Shah Rukh Khan's son Aryan Khan in a cruise raid last year attracted plenty of attention and questions. Aryan was arrested even though there were no drugs found in his possession nor was there any evidence that he had consumed or dealt in drugs. There were also questions regarding Wankhede's caste certificate, with Malik claiming that Wankhede's family was a practising Muslim family but the officer got a job under the Scheduled Caste quota.

Wankhede's new posting is not likely to end the Malik versus Wankhede saga. On Monday, Malik revealed that he has complained to the Vigilance Department in the NCB against Wankhede.
