Khan, 54, was repeatedly stabbed by an intruder inside his 12th-floor apartment on January 16, requiring immediate surgery. On Sunday, police arrested Fakir, a Bangladeshi national living illegally in India under the alias Vijay Das, in neighbouring Thane city.
The actor was "out of danger" following a successful surgery at Lilavati Hospital.
"Emergency surgery was performed to remove the knife and repair the leaking spinal fluid. Additionally, two deep wounds on his left hand and one on his neck were treated by the plastic surgery team," a doctor from the hospital had said.
The actor’s team issued an official statement confirming his recovery and stable condition on January 16. Dr. Uttamani provided details about his injuries, stating, “Saif Ali Khan sustained six stab wounds, two of which were deep, with one near his spine. A foreign object was also found near his spine.”
The hospital confirmed that a team of specialists, including Dr. Nitin Dange (Consultant Neurosurgeon), Dr. Leena Jain (Consultant Plastic Surgeon), Dr. Nisha Gandhi (Consultant Anaesthesiologist), Dr. Kavita Srinivas (Intensivist), and Dr. Manoj Deshmukh (Consultant Radiologist), was overseeing the actor’s treatment.
The police had formed more than 30 teams to track down and apprehend the attacker, who had stabbed the film star in his 12th-floor apartment at the Satguru Sharan building during the burglaery attempt.
