In what has been a week of intense India-Russia diplomatic engagements, a delegation of the ruling United Russia Party met the BJP president, Lok Sabha speaker, Rajya Sabha deputy chairperson and head of India-Russia Friendship Group in Parliament.

While Russia’s first deputy prime minister Denis Manturov engaged with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other key leaders in Delhi on Thursday and assured additional supplies of crude and fertilisers, a Russian parliamentary delegation led by Vladimir Yakushev, first deputy speaker of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation, met BJP president Nitin Nabin, Lok Sabha speaker Om Birla and Rajya Sabha deputy chairman Harivansh to widen party-to-party ties, initiate exchange programmes between ruling party members and strengthen parliamentary ties.

On Friday, Yakushev met Nishikant Dubey, the newly appointed head of the India-Russia Friendship Group in Parliament.

BJP national president Nitin Nabin on Thursday said the India-Russia relationship continues to be a “time-tested partnership” marked by deep trust and mutual respect, as he met a high-level delegation of Russia’s ruling party, led by Yakushev.

Nabin said the strong personal chemistry between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Vladimir Putin had added new energy and direction to bilateral ties. He shared insights into the BJP’s vision, organisational structure and its people-centric approach to political engagement, and highlighted the ‘Know BJP’ initiative as an important platform to enhance international understanding, encourage exchange of ideas and strengthen ties with political parties and leaders across the world.

During the interaction, the two sides discussed ways to strengthen party-to-party engagement through structured dialogue at various levels of leadership, fostering greater exchange of ideas, best practices and deeper institutional cooperation. Nabin was accompanied by BJP national general secretary Arun Singh and the party’s foreign affairs department in-charge Vijay Chauthaiwale.

Meanwhile, highlighting that India–Russia parliamentary ties are set to deepen through renewed dialogue and cooperation, Birla during his meeting with Yakushev observed that the two countries share a time-tested partnership rooted in mutual trust and understanding. Since India’s independence, Russia has remained one of its closest and most reliable partners, and the friendship between the people of both countries continues to serve as a model for international cooperation, he said.
