NEW DELHI: Russia's Deputy PM Dmitry Patrushev, who deals with agriculture and agro products, is planning a New Delhi visit this month with an agenda on increasing fertiliser supplies here and importing shrimps from India.

Shrimp exports from India to the USA have been hit hard following 50% tariffs and Russia could be a lucrative market for Indian shrimp exporters, it has been learnt. Patrushev's visit could help fine tune bilateral strategy to export shrimps to Russia. Dmitry Patrushev, son of former Russian NSA Nikolay Patrushev, is also expected to engage with key Indian ministers during his trip to further trade ties with a focus on Indian exports to Russia. Patrushev has been specialising in agri issues for close to a decade.

India is the largest supplier of shrimp to the United States, accounting for a significant portion of the total US shrimp imports. The US is the largest market for Indian shrimp, with exports reaching billions of dollars annually. The US has imposed duties, including anti-subsidy duties and anti-dumping duties, that can result in a total tariff rate of over 58% on Indian shrimp imports.

Indian shrimps, after factoring in the 50% tariff, will face competitors such as Ecuador, Indonesia, Vietnam, and China in the USA market. The Russian market could give relief to Indian shrimp exporters.
