Sharing details, the spokesperson of the ministry said that a total of 126 cases of Indian nationals serving in the Russian Army have come to light as of date. Out of these, 96 people have been discharged from the army and have since returned to India.
"18 Indian nationals still remain in combat. Of these 18, the whereabouts of 16 individuals are not known. The Russian authorities have categorised them as 'missing persons'. So far, 12 Indian nationals have died in combat," the spokesperson said.
While there have been several cases of Indians being misled into serving in the Russian Army after being lured in the pretext of jobs abroad, efforts have been made by the government to get them repatriated.
Recently, a Kerala resident Binil Babu died in the war while another, Jain TK was injured and is expected to return after treatment.
