Russia backs India amid BRICS West Asia rift talks; Sergey Lavrov to visit Delhi, meet S. Jaishankar
As India's close strategic partner, Russia shares the priorities suggested by India to move the BRICS agenda forward in all three baskets - policy and security, economy and finance humanitarian and cultural ties, senior Russian government sources told ET.

In the context of the escalation in West Asia, recent Indian endeavours to bring all parties together in the format of special representatives was a big achievement, although the meeting could not deliver a joint statement. But it was a very useful platform for dialogue for all participants and the BRICS foreign ministers' meeting on May 14-15 would take forward the discussions on the West Asian issue, Russian government sources said.
The sources added that Russian special representative backed India's views on the contentious issue and tried to use his good offices to push for consensus.

Russian foreign minister Sergey Lavrov will be in New Delhi for the BRICS meet and will meet his Indian counterpart S Jaishankar on the sidelines of the meeting to take forward both the BRICS and bilateral agenda.
