Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan orders random inspections of works under VB-G RAM G scheme

Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan directed officials to conduct random inspections of work being undertaken under the Viksit Bharat - Guarantee for Rozgar & Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) (VB-G RAM G) scheme, saying that fraud will not be tolerated.

Addressing officials from states and union territories at a national workshop on VB-G RAM G on Thursday, Chouhan stressed the need to establish a robust monitoring and inspection mechanism from the outset. “Fraud in the scheme would not be tolerated at any cost,” he said. The VB-G RAM G Act, 2025, launched in July, replaced the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), 2005.

“I am clearly saying as the Minister that if there is any fraud, no one will be spared. Action will be taken against anyone who indulges in irregularities,” said Chouhan.


The minister said officials should appreciate those implementing works in accordance with prescribed standards and procedures. At the same time, he called for strict action at the earliest wherever irregularities are found to prevent future violations of the rules.

Chouhan also emphasised that workers should be provided employment without unnecessary delays and should not remain without work even for an hour. He stressed the need to ensure timely payment of wages as well.

He further underscored the importance of adhering to the scheme’s prescribed wage-material ratio. At the district level, 60% of the funds are to be spent on wages and 40% on materials, he said.
