Rs 7.4 crore spent for policing protest venues of farmers: Minister

The Centre spent Rs 7.38 cr to police protest sites of farmers at Delhi borders, minister of state for home Nityanand Rai told the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday.

Replying to a question by DMK's M Mohamed Abdulla, the minister did not give details on the number of farmers who died during the over a year-long protests and if the Centre has given compensation.

Rai said since police and public order were state subjects as per the Seventh Schedule, the information sought was with respective state governments. Incidentally, the Delhi Police works under Rai's ministry.


The Delhi Police has informed the ministry that '7,38,42,914 has been spent to 'provide security' at various sites of farmers' protest up to November 11, 2021, Rai said. State governments deal with matters relating to compensation, he said.
