Dating app scam
A man from Delhi faced a shocking experience while trying to find love. On October 21, he received a WhatsApp message inviting him on a date in Ghaziabad. Instead of a romantic evening, he fell victim to a scam involving a hefty bill and attempted kidnapping.

The Scam Unfolds

The man was asked to meet at Kaushambi metro station and was then taken to Tiger Cafe, located in the Kaushambi Hotel. He grew suspicious as the cafe had no online presence or signboard. Concerned for his safety, he shared his live location with a friend.

His fears were confirmed when he was handed a bill of Rs 16,400 for a cold drink ordered by his date. When he protested, the scammer demanded Rs 50,000. Realizing he was in danger, the man’s friend contacted the police, who took immediate action.

Police Response

This prompt action led to the arrest of eight individuals involved in the scam. According to reports, the group consisted of five girls and three boys, with four girls from Delhi who maintained profiles on various dating apps. They lured men to the cafe, where they were overcharged for food and drinks. Victims were often held hostage until they paid the demanded amounts.

The man was released, and an FIR was registered based on his complaint. "Further action is being taken," said Swatantra Singh, ACP Indirapuram.

This incident highlights the risks associated with online dating and the need for caution when meeting strangers.
