Rs 1-lakh scooty gets Rs 1.12 crore bid for fancy registration number

Car or two-wheeler enthusiast often never mind spending extra money on getting a fancy number for their new cars. The special series numbers is a way for people to let others know that their vehicle is unique. While a fancy registration number costs more, it also sends out a message to the people around you.

A buyer has placed a whooping online bid of Rs 1.12 crore for a fancy registration number (HP 99-9999) for his scooty, which is normally priced between Rs 70,000 to Rs 1,80,000, in Kotkhai, Himachal Pradesh. The reserve price for the bid was set at Rs 1,000 and as many as 26 participants placed their bid to get the number.

As per the Kotkhai Registering and Licensing Authority official, the highest bid of Rs 1,12,15,500 has been received for the fancy number. The bidding would end on Friday.


However, the details about bidder are yet to be known and in case he does not deposit the money the number would go to the second highest bidder.

However, the officials do not rule out pressure tactics of the bidder to oust the competitors and said that there is a need for imposition of penalty in case the bidding money is not deposited.

"We are also contemplating adding a clause to deposit 30 per cent bid amount at time of bidding which will be forfeited in case the whole amount is not deposited to end such practices," an official told PTI.

Scooty two-wheeler is very popular in hilly states like Himachal Pradesh.

The sale of scooties have gone up by 30-40 per cent, as compared to post Covid period in the hilly areas like Shimla, said Lovnesh.
